7 Fun Things To Do At Stonham Barns, Suffolk

Just across the Essex border in Suffolk is Stonham Barns Park. As well as an events space for things like car shows and boot sales, there’s a holiday park with glamping and a whole range of attractions all in one area. Everything is individually priced with their own entrance fees and charges, so keep this in mind if you plan on visiting!

🕖10am – 5pm

💰Adults: £11.50 | Children (4-16yrs): £8.50

One of my favourite things to do at Stonham Barns is the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary. As the name suggests, they have over 80 owls and birds of prey, but they also have a meerkat mob. We spent just under 2 hours there, mostly just watching the educational talks which are well worth attending.

Between end of March and October there is a 30 minute ‘Meet The Meerkats Talk’ at 11am. The keeper was fun and gave a really interesting talk about what meerkats are like in both the wild and captivity. It was great for both adults and kids alike.

Straight after at 11.30am is the 60 minute ‘Flying Display’. A selection of different owls and birds of prey are part of the display. They fly through the seating area passing over the heads and between the audience very closely. So if you are a bit afraid of birds, it may be better to watch the show from the very back in the area that’s slightly undercover!

The commentary provides information about how the birds coexist with us when they live in the wild. Many of the species used in the display are native to the UK.

There are another set of talks at 2pm and 2.30pm.

Stonham Barns Crazy Golf

🕖9am – 6pm

💰Adults: £7 | Juniors: £5

The Stonham Barns Golf Park is home to a short 9 hole golf course as well as foot golf, an indoor golf simulator and Smugglers Bay Adventure Golf. The pirate themed crazy golf course has 18 holes. Many of the holes are fairly similar and straight forward, without many tricky elements.

My favourite hole is ’13 – Gold Mining’. You have to hit the ball up a slope and then it is pushed along on a raised water section over a stream to the hole. Once you manage to get the ball up the initial slope, it does seem that you are likely to get a hole in 1 regardless.

Stonham Barns Retail Village & Restaurant

There are a selection of small businesses in the Stonham Barns Retail Village. Such as a sweet shop, book store, a hot tub dealership, a stand up paddle boarding shop, a toy store, a garden centre a more. You’ll also find an indoor play area with a sensory room.

The Bistro at the Barns takeaway and restaurant is a great place to stop for a breakfast, especially if you were attending one of the events or shows and wanted a sit down meal rather than something from a burger van. They also do lunch, dinner and ice creams.

Bloomfield’s Fun Fair & Kids Play Area

Bloomfield’s Fun Fair is open between February until October (dates vary depending on school holidays). You’ll find a range of fairground rides and inflatables for younger visitors. Rides are token based. There’s a giant jumping pillow in this area that is free.

Carters of Suffolk Teapot Pottery has paint your own pottery and a tearoom. They have been making novel and collectible teapots since the 1970s and now guests can try their hand at decorating their own pottery.

Stonham Barns Events

Every Sunday from April until November, Stonham Barns hosts a car boot sale in the front field. Throughout the year several other events take place at Stonham Barns including different car and truck shows.

Stonham Barns ‘Knucklebusters’ Car Show

I attended the Knucklebusters car show that took place on August bank holiday weekend. Entrance to the show was £10 per person (entrance varies depending on the show) and there were a range of different cars, pick up trucks and motorbikes on display. Within the show space there was an additional food court area, trade stalls and a live music stage.

Stonham Barns Holiday Park

Some of the events have their own camping areas within the event site (with toilets, showers, a dish washing area, elsan points etc). However Stonham Barns Holiday Park is a separate camp site with static caravans and bell tents available plus pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes (with (£28 per night) or without (£25pn) electric hook up). There is complimentary WiFi, toilet and shower blocks, a washing up area and a village store. The site is dog friendly.
