Finchingfield Camping | Lavender Fields Essex

Just outside of the Essex village of Finchingfield, is Finchingfield Camping and Lavender Farm. They mostly operate as a camping and glamping site, however they release a handful of day passes during the summer season. This way the campers can still enjoy the peaceful location but visitors can also enjoy their lavender field too.

Finchingfield Camping & Lavender Farm Essex

When the lavender field is in full bloom, approximately beginning of July to the end of August, day visitors can visit the lavender field. Around 25 tickets per day are available online for £5 per person. For this, visitors are able to stay for as long as they want between the hours of 9am until 5pm. It also includes any lavender you wish to cut and take home.

On arrival, pass through the gate and park in the designated parking area. Follow signs to ‘The Shed’ where inside there is a metal bucket labelled with the person’s name who made the booking. Inside the bucket is a paper bag for each paid ticket, some scissors and a map of the farm and how best to cut the lavender.

There are various types of deck chairs and sun loungers spread out through the lavender field. The fields smell amazing and it’s very relaxing to just sit and look out over the countryside and hear the sounds of the bees. If you want, you can even take along a picnic to enjoy.

They do ask that professional photos and photoshoots do not take place. People were taking photos on phones but they were discreet and not over the top (sorry Instagrammers…).

There’s a toilet that day visitors can use. It’s a composing toilet with hand washing facilities and hand sanitiser. They also have a pen full of ‘fluffy chickens’ which are fun to watch!

What To Do With Dried Lavender

I filled up around a third of my paper bag with the lavender cuttings I collected. At the moment it now sits in a vase on my window sill but there are many uses for dried lavender. Google has a bunch of creative ideas for dried lavender, including making little scent bags or envelopes.

(I visited at the very end of the season when the lavender was starting to lose its colour.)

Camping & Glamping at Finchingfield Camping

Camping pitches are available for £28 per night based on two people in a large tent. Extra adults are an additional price but children up to 16 years old are free. Each pitch has a private toilet and shared shower facilities. There’s also a picnic bench, fire pit and a fire pit grill. Pitches are off the grid, however there is a mobile phone charging point in The Shed.

Two fully furnished stargazing Lotus Belle tents are available for glamping. There is no power in the tent apart from solar powered lights. The same mobile phone power point mentioned above can be used. Cooking can be done on the fire pit, or they do allow you to bring a camping gas burner for kettles etc (the kettle provided works on both a fire pit or a gas burner). Each Belle tent has a private composing toilet (outside) and access to the shared shower facilities.
