In celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, there is a 4 day bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June 2022. Many of the towns and villages in Essex are holding special events to celebrate the Jubilee. Here are some events and things to do during the Queen’s Jubilee weekend in Essex.
Queen’s Jubilee Weekend in Essex
Braintree
Festival In The Gardens – 3rd to 5th June
🗺Braintree & Bocking Public Gardens, 43 Bocking End, Braintree CM7 9AE
💰£5 per day (under 16s free)
On the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the Public Gardens in Braintree are holding a 3 day festival. Entrance is £5 per day and under 16s are free. There’s a variety of bands and music artists that are playing across the weekend. Personally I have tickets for the Saturday to see local Braintree band, ‘Missing Andy’, they always put on a great show! For more information visit: Festival In The Gardens.

Great Notley
Great Notley Platinum Jubilee Fete – Saturday 4th June

Between 1pm and 9pm is the Great Notley Platinum Jubilee Fete on the village green. Until 5pm there will be inflatables, fairground and donkey rides, axe throwing and archery, free bungee trampolines and a climbing wall, a display of classic cars, arena displays and food and drink available. Live music will be on from mid afternoon until 9pm.
Halstead
Platium Jubilee Events in Halstead – 2nd to 5th June
🗺Halstead Public Gardens, Trinity St, Halstead

All events in the Halstead Public Gardens during the Jubilee weekend are free to enjoy. From singers to Caribbean steal bands to a children’s outdoor cinema (showing Encanto and Pirates of the Caribbean). A food truck and ice cream van will be in the gardens with food and drinks for sale. For the full schedule check out the Halstead Council website.
Silver End
Jubilee Party In The Park – Saturday 4th June

Between 1pm and 6pm in the Silver End Memorial Gardens/Park there will be a whole range of different events on offer. From classic cars, a dog show, bake off competitions, fancy dress competitions, inflatables, a craft tent, donkey rides, live music, karaoke, food and drink for purchase and more!
Coggeshall
Coggeshall Summer Festival – Saturday 4th June
🗺Coggeshall Recreation Ground, Coggeshall, Colchester CO6 1UA

From 11am until late is the Coggeshall Summer Festival. They will have an outdoor cinema set up which will be screening the Jubilee Concert from Buckingham Palace, live music and entertainment all day, stalls, games and crafts, classic cars, a dog show, street food, a beer tent and a gin and cocktail bar.
Southend
Music in the Park: Jubilee Celebration – Thursday 2nd June

Located at the band stand in Priory Park will be the Music in the Park: Jubilee Celebration. From 1pm until 6pm there will be 3 bands playing: the Southend Band, Salvation Army Band and Mighty Brass Jam. There’s not really anywhere to park around Priory Park, so it’s best to use public transport or walk. Take your own blankets or chairs if you don’t want to sit on the grass! Southend Jubilee Mega Fun Day – Friday 3rd June

In Garon Park there will be a ‘mega inflatable fun day’. Children up to the age of 11 years old can enjoy a variety of inflatable slides, bouncy castles, assault courses and more. There are 2 sessions: 11am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm. Tickets can be bought online here. Tickets may be available on the door but the price increases. If the event sells out, there will be no additional tickets.
Jubilee On The Pier – 4th & 5th June

At the end of Southend Pier you’ll find several free Jubilee activities. From live music to face painting and glitter tattoos, a colouring competition, photo opportunities, giveaways and more. The activities are free but pier admission prices apply. Walking the pier both ways is the cheapest option (adults: £2 | children: £1), but it is 1.33 miles long one way. (It’s the longest pleasure pier in the world!). Alternatively, there’s a train!
Colchester
The Queen’s Jubilee Celebration – Thursday 2nd June

Throughout the afternoon and evening, Upper Castle Park will be holding various events. From an opening gun salute, a community picnic in the park with entertainment and activities (bring your own picnic), finishing up in the evening with the lighting of Colchester Castle Park’s Beacon. The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at The Mercury – Sunday 5th June

Located outside on the Mercury Theatre Piazza, there will be a whole host of free creative events between 12pm until 8pm. Entertainment includes: dance and musical performances, sing-a-longs, crafts, face painting, dressing up and more. For more information visit the Mercury Theatre website.
Fingeringhoe
Fingeringhoe Platinum Jubilee Fete & Dog Show – Thursday 2nd June
🗺Fingringhoe, Colchester CO5 7BN
Throughout the village of Fingeringhoe, you’ll find the Fingeringhoe Platinum Jubilee Fete & Dog Show. Other than the Dog Show (at the Recreation Ground), visitors can enjoy a petting farm at Pickett’s Farm, a farmer’s market, BBQ stalls, a craft fair, games, crafts and more. The daytime celebrations are between 11am until 4pm and then at 9.45pm the Beacon at Ferry Road will be lit. There’s a minimum donation of £1 per entry at the dog show (register by 12pm).
Colne Engaine
Colne Engaine Festival – 2nd to 5th June

Across the full Bank Holiday weekend, Colne Engaine is hosting a range of Jubilee Celebration activities. Thursday night has a quiz night (£) and on Friday night there is a country dance and hog roast (£). Saturday and Sunday afternoon between 12pm until 5pm has a free Family Fate Day. Here you’ll find live music, animals, bouncy castles, food and drink, craft stalls and more. Saturday night Funk Soul Lovers (£) will be playing in the festival marquee. Billericay
Soapbox Derby – Friday 3rd June | MusicFest – Saturday 4th June

On Friday 3rd June there will be a Soapbox Derby at Sun Corner/Queen Elizabeth II Field. Tickets are £3 online in advance or £5 per person on the gate. MusicFest will take place on Saturday 4th June and celebrates 7 decades of live music. The festival will be on between 2pm until 10pm. Tickets are £10 for adults and children over 5 years old. Maldon
Carter’s Steam Fair – 28th May to 5th June

If you wanted something a little different to do over the Jubilee weekend in Essex, Carter’s Steam Fair will be in Maldon Promenade Park between 28th May to 5th June. This is a vintage travelling fairground with steam powered rides. After the 2022 tour the steam fair is being sold, so this may be your last chance to see it in Essex! Brentwood
Essex Country Show – 3rd to 5th June

The Essex Country Show is taking place over the Jubilee weekend and has a wide range of events that take place throughout the day. Clacton
Free Fireworks Extravaganza – Friday 3rd June

If you are spending the day in Clacton, why not stick around until the evening to catch the free firework display at Clacton Pier. Fireworks start between 8pm – 9.30pm.
